The wood garlic is a favourite British native plant, thriving on shady river banks and moist woodland.  Early in the spring the bold fleshy green leaves appear, followed by a lovely display of white flowers. Leaves and stems are good to eat, having a strong onion flavour; a welcome addition to a natural stew or wild picnic.
